| Welcome - friends of bauhaus architecture!> Dessau, Germany Dessau, Germany ![]() The Bauhaus was founded in Weimar in April of 1919 by Walter Gropius, who was also the first director. The Bauhaus remained in Weimar until the end of March 1925. In the advent of restrictive politics, it moved to Dessau. In Dessau one can find some Bauhaus treasures including The Bauhaus-Building itself, constructed by Walter Gropius as well as three of the four "Meisterhäuser". The "Haus Feininger", The "Haus Muche-Schlemmer" and the building "Haus Klee-Kandinsky". There is also a complete residential area with a supermarket and several other buildings: The so called "Siedlung Dessau-Törten". In 1932 the Bauhaus had to move to Berlin, where it was closed in 1933 under the pressure of the National Socialists.
