The so called "Dammerstock-Siedlung" was constructed by the newly established building societies "Volkswohnung" and "Hardtwaldsiedlung" under Julius Finter as mayor and Walter Gropius as leading architect. The target of this project was to provide cheap residences with a main focus on functionality.

Today it is known all over the world as the biggest project of residence buildings, that are built according to the new modernism Bauhaus style.
